Your self-talk is a command - what are you typing in?

mindset self-talk May 20, 2025

Have you ever caught yourself saying things like,

I never do well under pressure,”

I always mess up the first run.”

Or

I’m just not good at [insert skill here]”?

Here’s the thing: Your brain is always listening. And it’s not just eavesdropping — it’s executing those thoughts like a computer running a command.

Think about it this way: Your self-talk is like typing into a search bar or command line. The moment you hit enter, the system starts working on that task. It doesn’t pause to ask, Wait… do we want to believe this? It just runs the code.

So if your self-talk sounds like doubt, defeat, or discouragement, your brain will get to work finding evidence to back that up. That’s how thoughts become beliefs — and beliefs shape behavior.

Now let’s talk about the blinking cursor.

That uncomfortable, silent pause before you think something. The mental blank page.

Most people hate that space. It’s unfamiliar. It’s uncertain. It’s like staring at a trial map with no idea which way the course runs.

So the brain fills that space fast. And because it wants to feel safe, it often fills it with the familiar, even if that familiar is self-critical, unhelpful, or flat-out untrue.

That’s how we keep looping the same patterns. Same thoughts → same feelings → same actions → same results.

It’s not because you don’t want change — it’s because your brain is defending what it already knows.

And that’s where mindset training comes in.

Changing your self-talk doesn’t mean pretending everything’s perfect or ignoring what’s hard. It means getting intentional about what you type into the system. It means choosing thoughts that move you forward, not keep you stuck.

Here’s what that can look like:

  • Noticing when your internal dialogue turns negative
  • Interrupting the thought with curiosity, not judgment
  • Practicing new, empowering language on purpose
  • Giving your brain something better to execute

Because just like dog training, mindset isn’t about luck or talent — it’s about repetition and reinforcement.

And when you upgrade your self-talk, you upgrade your results.

More confidence. More consistency. More clean runs.

And yeah — more Qs.
