It's time to get obsessed!
Oct 14, 2025There’s a question going around social media right now that I can’t stop thinking about:
“What are you going to be obsessed about this month?”
And I love that energy. Because “obsessed” gets a bad rap — we’re told to stay balanced, calm, and not take things too seriously. But honestly? The handlers who make big strides in this sport have a streak of healthy obsession in them. They focus. They care. They want it.
So this month, I want you to pick something — one thing — and get obsessed with it.
Healthy obsession looks different
We’re not talking about the burnout kind of obsession that has you drilling the same skill until your dog hates it (or you do).
We’re talking about the focused, excited kind — the kind that makes you want to study videos, tweak a plan, and celebrate every tiny improvement.
Healthy obsession is energy with direction. It’s curiosity mixed with consistency. It’s how you go from “I hope this works” to “I’ve got this.”
And confidence loves that kind of repetition. Every rep is proof — to your brain, your body, and your dog — that you know what you’re doing.
Time to borrow some villain energy
Since it’s October, let’s have a little fun. Think about your favorite movie villain — the ones who always seem unshakably certain of what they want.
They don’t apologize for being focused. They don’t water down their goals. They don’t ask for permission to go after what they want.
What if you channeled just that part of their energy this month? The clarity. The conviction. The “nothing’s getting in my way” attitude.
(We’ll skip the evil laughter, of course.)
Because when you’re single-minded about a goal — when you’re truly obsessed with mastering one skill, habit, or mindset shift — distractions lose their grip.
Pick your October obsession
Here’s your challenge: pick one thing.
- Maybe it’s improving your pre-run mindset.
- Maybe it’s smoothing your handling transitions.
- Maybe it’s keeping your self-talk positive.
The point isn’t what you choose; it’s that you choose.
Focus your energy on one tiny but meaningful improvement and give it 30 days of attention. Obsess — in the best way — about getting a little better each week.
Make it visible
This is where tracking matters. Confidence and motivation both thrive on proof.
Write it down. Plan your reps. Make notes about what’s working.
Tools like the Dogged Planner make this easy — it’s designed to turn focus into progress. Every note, every reflection, becomes visible evidence of your obsession paying off.
Go get gloriously obsessed
So here’s your October assignment: channel your inner (good) villain.
Pick one thing and go all-in. Let your focus scare your distractions.
Confidence, growth, and mastery don’t come from dabbling — they come from diving in.
So go ahead — get obsessed, in the best way.
